The Engaging Scientists & Engineers in Policy (ESEP) Coalition is an ad hoc alliance of organizations that have joined together to empower scientists and engineers to effectively engage in the policy making process at all levels of government (international, federal, state and local).

Our Mission

Guarantee that scientists and engineers who have participated in training programs or have engaged in the science-policy interface have formal and informal ways to communicate with others who have similar interests.

Facilitate increased institutional/organizational support for the development of new tools and mechanisms that enable scientists and engineers to effectively engage in policy.

Motivate more scientists and engineers to participate in the science-policy interface at all levels: local, state, federal and international.

Ensure that scientists and engineers who wish to engage in the science-policy interface are empowered, encouraged and aware of available training and tools to do so effectively.

Promote within the research community an understanding that engagement in policy is an important contribution to science and society and skill set that should be a respected and valued component of one’s professional career.​
